THE SELFISH GIANT

I.Summary

The short story I choose to summarize and react to is THE SELFISH GIANT by Oscar Wilde.This short story's character, the Giant was very selfish.  For that reason, he got some misfortune. I thought thast it teaches the readers not to be very selfish.
私が要約し反応することを選んだのはOscar WildeのTHE SELFISH GIANTだ。この話のキャラクター、巨人は自己中心的だ。そのため、彼は災難を受けた。それは、読者に自己中心的になりすぎるなと教えてくれると考える。

II.Reaction

1.Protagonist
This short story's maincharacter is the Giant. He was very selfish because he didn't allow the children coming from school to play his garden. So the children was afraid of the Giant. Next, the important person we don't have to forget is the little boy. He was put into the tree by the Giant and noticed Giant's kindness. So he kissed Giant. When the other children saw them, they knew Giant wasn't wicked.
この短い物語の主な登場人物は巨人だ。彼は学校から帰ってきた子供たちに自分の庭で遊ばせなかったために彼はとても自己中心的であった。なので子供たちは巨人を怖がった。次に、忘れてはならない重要人物は小さな男の子である。彼は巨人によって木に乗せてもらった後巨人の優しさに気づけた。だから、彼は巨人にキスをした。ほかの子供たちが二人を見て、彼らは悪いやつではないと知った。

2.Denouement
Thanks to the little boy, Giant played in his garden with the children. But he hadn't met the little boy since that day he made friends with him. So he felt lonely. Years went over. He grew very old and feeble. Therefore he couldn't play with the children.
One winter morning, he met the little boy.  The little boy's hands and feet were injured by nails. He was very angry. But the little boy smiled and said. "You let me play once in your garden,to-day you shall come wirh me to my garden, which is Paradise." And he was dead.

小さな男の子のおかげで、巨人は子供たちと庭で遊んだ。しかし、彼は彼と友達になったあの日から会いませんでした。数年たった。彼は老いて体力も衰えた。その為に、子供たちと遊べなくなった。ある冬の朝、彼は小さな男の子と会った。彼の手と足は釘で傷ついていた。彼はとても怒った。しかし、男の子は微笑み、言った。「あなたは庭で遊ばせてくれた。今日は楽園である僕の庭においでよ。」そうして巨人は死んだ。

3.Motif
I thought about the little boy. Page13, sixteen lines say "For on palms of  the child's hands were the prints of two nails, and the prints of nails were on the little feet." The little boy's these wound is lke Christ.
私は小さい男の子について考えた。13ページの16行目「子供の両手のひらには釘の跡、小さな足にも釘の跡があった。 」その小さな男の子のこれらの傷はキリストのようだ。

4. General opinion
When I read the short story, I was sad. But I thought the Giant felt happy because he could meet the little boy lastly.
And I was interested in the season.When the Giant was selfish and not be kind to the children playing in his garden, it was winter all the way. But when he noticed to be very selfish, it come spring. It was taught for me not to be selfish.
この話を読んだとき悲しくなった。しかし、私は巨人は最後に小さな男の子に会うことができたので、うれしかったと考えた。
そして、私が興味を持ったのは季節だ。巨人が自己中心的で、庭で遊ぶ子供たちに対し優しくなかったとき、ずっと冬だった。しかし、彼がとても自己中心的であったと気づいたとき、春がやってきた。それは私に自己中心的にはなりすぎるなということを教えた。
